The CW1 group arrives in Portugal to change healthcare finances

3 min read

Registered this week as a healthcare provider, the CW1 group enters the Portuguese market with an openness to public-private partnerships and a biomedical research center planned for Lisbon.

Lisbon, June 22, 2026. Healthcare in Portugal is failing in two directions at the same time. On one hand, the public service accumulates waiting lists and works with fragmented records between units that do not communicate with each other. On the other hand, a large part of the private sector has built a model where every visit generates more tests and a larger bill. It is into this gap that the CW1 group enters, having officially registered this week as a healthcare provider in Portugal.

The arrival marks the group's expansion into the Portuguese market from Sweden and Germany, bringing with it the European clinical coordination practices it utilizes abroad.

The public sector's problem is well-known and documented: those in need wait, and those who wait are treated without anyone having their complete history on hand. The fragmentation of clinical records is not an administrative detail, but rather the reason why the same test is requested over and over again, and why long illness trajectories go unnoticed until it is too late.

The private sector resolved the waiting times, but at a price that pushes many people away and, in too many cases, with tests that serve billing more than the patient. Swapping months on a waiting list for a bill that no one can predict is not the progress it claims to be.

The CW1 group calculates the numbers differently. Its technology unifies each patient's scattered records and reads the entire clinical journey, not just the episode of the day. With a complete and legible history, repeated tests no longer make sense, and the price no longer depends on the volume of requests. It is care based on what is already known about the person, with a bill that makes sense.

The entry into Portugal is not a market test. The CW1 group arrives ready to work with the public system, and not just alongside it: it intends to develop public-private partnerships that put its coordination technology at the service of the SNS (National Health Service), to alleviate waiting lists and cut down on the duplication of tests.

The commitment to the country includes research. The group is preparing to open a biomedical research center in Lisbon, funded by private investment, which will anchor the group's clinical and data work in Portugal and create high-skilled jobs.

"Portuguese patients will now benefit from European practices and a faster system," says Pedro Stark, managing partner of the CW1 group. "We came to Portugal because we see a system with excellent people, but trapped in a structure that holds them back. Partnerships with different entities are the fastest way to change this at scale, and the research center in Lisbon is our long-term commitment to the country, not just a storefront."

About the CW1 Group The CW1 group is a healthcare provider that organizes treatment around the patient's entire journey, rather than isolated episodes. Its technology unifies each person's scattered clinical records and gives the entire team a comprehensive view of the case, eliminating repeated tests and decisions made blindly. From there, a medical team takes over clinical coordination, and an economic team ensures that the right care comes at a cost the patient can afford. The group operates in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Portugal. It has been registered as a healthcare provider in Portugal since June 19, 2026.
